THE SECRET TO MAKING NATURAL DEODORANT WORK

Natural deodorant: are we into it or not? So, first things first, I made the transition to natural deodorant over 3 years ago. It actually happened when I created Sweat in SD. I was introduced to a few brands and figured I’d give it a go. My transition was honestly easy. I always heard about the 2 week transition period but, I personally didn’t experience it.

Shall we get into the secret sauce? Although my initial transition to natural deodorant was easy, my struggle came later on after about a year and a half using it. I straight up had BO, like bad BO. I tried a couple of other deodorants after noticing the odor but nothing was working.

THE SECRET TO MAKING NATURAL DEODORANT WORK

That’s when I started researching and put two and two together. If we exfoliate our face, shouldn’t we be exfoliating our underarms? Shaving your underarms does exfoliate them but for me at least, I needed something stronger when it came to using natural deodorant.

I started using this glycolic acid on my armpits about 2-3 times a week depending on the situation and it changed my entire BO situation. Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). Glycolic acid works by loosening any dull or dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin. AKA, in this case, it will remove the deodorant excess you have from past wears. Removing old deodorant, especially natural deodorant, is not so easy. It also stimulates new cell generation, which will improve the skin tone and texture.

Using a chemical exfoliant to remove the old deodorant has been a complete game-changer for me and has made natural deodorant work for me with no issues!

I’m going to link a few options & sizes below. I’ve only tried this one which is a 5% glycolic acid. Keep in mind some may have a higher percentage so you may want to start low at first.

TOP SUNSCREEN RECOMMENDATIONS

It’s finally Summer! Although, it may look a little different this year, I hope everyone has an amazing Summer! Stay safe & healthy!

If you follow along on instagram, you know I’m skincare obsessed. I hear it all the time but it’s so true, anti-aging starts with sunscreen. I’m also someone who deals with hyperpigmentation, so the sun and heat doesn’t do my skin any good. I personally wear sunscreen every day, all year round (so important!!!). TBH, I’ve tried some bad sunscreens that would have made me hate wearing SPF if I didn’t continue my search. There is an SPF for every skin type, trust me!

I personally like the SPF you can’t tell you’re wearing and sits well under makeup. My skin type is different in the winter and the summer so I do use different sunscreens throughout ther year depending how oily my skin is feeling. Going to share some of my fave sunscreens and YOUR recommendations for the face & body. All links are shoppable below!

COOLA: I love their mineral sunscreen in lotion and spray form for pool time and the Daydream Mineral Primer SPF is amazing for the face during the Summer months. I personally have combo skin so it’s more on the matte side and still allows me to have glowing skin throughout the day. If you’re not into the matte look the Sun Silk Drops Sunscreen is also amaze!

Dermalogica: One of my favorite skincare brands and their sunscreens don’t disappoint. Sign me up for any suncreen that has invisble in the name.

Neutrogena: Long time Neutrogena user. Great afforable line! For all my zinc lovers (including me), they have great options for you too! Hot tip: their mist sunscreen gives the perfect glow!

Elta MD: An OG and fan favorite. Sets great under makeup which is a must for me on makeup days.

Super Goop: Another fan favorite. So many people rave about their invisible sunscreen! Lots of sunscreen options & even make up options.

Sara Elizabeth: One of my fave tinted matte primers. Especially if you get extra oily in the summertime. It has color technology so truly works for every skintone. Also offered in non-tinted.

Pacifica: Another clean and affordable line available at Target! They also have a bronzing suncreen for that extra Summer glow.

Sun Bum: Their body suncreens also came highly recommended from the Sweat in SD fam!
